Retires After 30 Years Of Service
carolyn_01Cabell County EMS would like to thank Captain Carolyn Clay for 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Cabell County.  Carolyn started her career on April 24, 1979 as an EMT and progressed up through the ranks to Shift Supervisor.

Usually when someone has been involved with EMS for 30 years it isn’t because they were just looking for a job at the time.  EMS workers that are in it for the long haul are there because it was a calling.  Some people are called into the ministry, to be statesmen, teachers etc…   Carolyn’s calling came when her daughter said, “Hi MOM!” from the top of their roof.  Like most parents in that situation, she was frozen with fear.  She didn’t know what to do.  What if she had fallen?  What if she was hurt?  But unlike most, Carolyn was motivated by her fears.  Her motivation turned into a passion.  That passion blossomed into a 30 year career as a Paramedic.

Over the years Carolyn has become like family to many of her crew.  Always seeing the “good” in everyone, her upbeat cheerful nature affectionately earned her the nickname “MawMaw”.   Her good nature always came in handy in dealing with Paramedics and EMTs who are a very unique group of people.  Carolyn always said, Paramedics come and go but their personalities are always the same.

We at Cabell County EMS have enjoyed having Carolyn as a part of our organization.  Carolyn gave her heart to our organization 30 years ago and she will forever be a part of Cabell County EMS.  We wish her and Jack many years of happiness together in her retirement.
